    Major Assistance Needed ASAP
    Tech problem:
    My father was trying to back his computer up this morning and "it took much longer then normal. And then the programme just disappeared." He has a laptop and backs the computer up onto an external drive using StorageSync by SimpleTech. He had bought a programme recently RegistryBooster 2010 which he decided to run after the failed back up and it said he had 40 000 bad registry entries. After deleting them and restarting the computer a lot of icons on the desktop where missing and everything else on the computer. He can only find the documents Masha helped him edit last night otherwise all the files are gone and when he tries opening any programme he either gets a message that it is stored on an unavailable network drive or that a file is missing and he needs to insert the Nuance PDF Pro 5 cd. Where his hard drive used to only have 5 gb free it is now almost half empty. The programme that he used to back up onto the external is missing, but when he tries installing it again it says the previous version must be uninstall before installing the new version and that can't be done because Add/Remove Programs is missing from the control panel now too. The files seem to be missing off of the external as well.

    If anyone has seen anything like this before, please tell me what should be done. I'm going to be at home at 7 pm tonight to try fixing this. I have a programme for recovering files off of hard drives that's really good to try saving files off of the external, but since StorageSync only does file to file back ups according to their website I won't be able to recover the software. Hopefully he has the CDs for the programmes in case everything is saved on the external so that if worst comes to worst we can reformat the hard drive, reinstall the software and return the files but I would prefer to avoid that method.

    Thanks.

    Computer Geek input
    So I've been considering buying myself a netbook lately. I've looked around online and am currently looking at this one Asus EeePc 901. I was wondering if any of you have had gotten chance to see these in person (I checked BestBuy they don't carry them and there is nowhere else in town I can think of to check) or have heard any good/bad things about them. Also if any of you have netbooks and have any suggestions as to what to look for or avoid and what might be a required accessory to get would be appreciated.

    Help! Tailoring problems
    Anyone who has made either Victorian or modern men's clothing:
    For Victorian tailcoats, what fabrics do I need? I know I need fabric for the outside, lining and lapel facings. What I can't remember or find anywhere is how where I need canvas/interlining and how much! Just in front, front and back, or front back and skirts? Do I need canvas in the sleeves?! I'm certain I need canvas for both front and back, because otherwise the light wool suiting and linen or silk lining wouldn't keep their shape, but I don't know how much I need to use or what the best choice is.

    I need silk
    I need between half and two yards of black silk by this weekend. Unfortunately the only places I know where to get black silk are a minimum of one and a half weeks delivery time. If anyone can suggest a website that has fairly fast delivery or a place in Madison that would carry it please do.

    Victorian patterns
    For anyone who might be interested in making Victorian men's clothing I found a great source for late period patterns. This is scans of ten pattern books published between 1893 and 1898. Being pattern books published during the Victorian period, they are historically accurate for Victorian. And on top of that they are FREE.

    Victorian Ball question
    To anyone who does anything with Victorian clothing, where is a good place to find a pattern for formal men's? The only thing I know right now is from Buttrick, but I'm assuming their Victorian is about as accurate as their mediaeval, so I'd like something better.

    Pennsic related
    To everyone going or planning on going to Pennsic and camping in N19:
    How many of you would be interested in a meal plan for 8 days (1st through 8th of August (inclusive)) with two full meals and breakfast a day? How much would you be willing to pay?
    Anybody interested in half meal plans of only a lunch or dinner a day?

    The reason I want to find out now is because if enough people are interested and willing to pay I might be able to supply a cook and food.

    Chandler any help please?
    Have a bit of C++ code I'm stuck on for class. BETExpr is a abstract binary expression tree expression class which stores pointers to a left and right node, it has two children OperandExpr which stores and int, OperatorExpr which is also an abstract class with children PlusExpr, MinusExpr, MultiplyExpr and DivideExpr.
    class BETree
    {
    private:
    BETExpr * tree;
    void RecBuild( istream & is, BETExpr * & t ) ;
    //some extra code
    public:
    void Build ( istream & is ) { RecBuild( is, tree ); }
    //some extra code
    };

    // is supposed to take the prefix notation expression in the input stream and recursively
    // build a binary expression tree.
    void BETree::RecBuild(std::istream &is, BETExpr *&t)
    {
    char symbol;
    is >> symbol;
    BETExpr *l = NULL;
    BETExpr *r = NULL:

    switch (symbol)
    {
    case '+':
    RecBuild(is, l);
    RecBuild(is, r);
    t = new PlusExpr(l, r);
    break;
    // all other cases that look almost like that
    }
    }

    Since RecBuild builds the tree bottom up, it build the complete tree just fine until it comes back up to the first call to RecBuild and gets to the line "t = new PlusExpr(l, r);" where t == *tree and for some reason at that point instead of assigning the PlusExpr to BETree::tree it throws the exceptin "Object reference not set to an instance of object"

    I can't figure out why RecBuild works when it recursively calls itself, but not the one time Build() calls it.

    Weird?
    So I just noticed that if I start talking to someone online, I almost immediately go to find information on them. Someone in platteville I know said I should talk to one of her friends because I was commenting on being bored. After I talked to her for a bit over IM, I started crawling the internet to find out about her. And it's not just the one incident, I've noticed that if I actually start talking to someone on the internet that I have never met in real life I will always start to look for information about them, facebook, google, livejournal, whatever. I don't know why or when this started, just that I want to find out more about who I'm dealing with and what the world has to say about them.
    Does this sound weird?

    So Emma showed this to me and I realised how much of a geek I was. Take not of how long this takes you.

    Tasty realisations II
    Given
    1) I have a bunch of blue cotton velvet sitting in my room.
    2) I'm going to be buying some silk satin soon at fairly cheap.
    3) I'm going to be buying some linen off of Eithni for a good price.
    4) My current Elizabethan doublet is polyester T_T

    Conclusion:
    I make a new doublet, cotton velvet shell and lined with linen, slashed sleeves with silk sticking through. I'm currently looking at this )
    for a general look. I still need to look and see if this would have been worn in France.

    And for those who had seen this earlier, sorry, it had been sitting on the computer for about a week now and I forgot I didn't have any cut tags placed.

    So Manda was going through her old entries and decided to repost this.

    10 Reasons Why Gay Marriage is "Wrong"

    1) Being gay is not natural. Real Americans always reject unnatural things like eyeglasses, polyester, and air conditioning.

    2) Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.

    3) Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behaviour. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract.

    4) Straight marriage has been around a long time and hasn't changed at all; women are still property, blacks still can't marry whites, and divorce is still illegal.

    5) Straight marriage will be less meaningful if gay marriage were allowed; the sanctity of Brittany Spears' 55-hour just-for-fun marriage would be destroyed.

    6) Straight marriages are valid because they produce children. Gay couples, infertile couples, and old people shouldn't be allowed to marry because our orphanages aren't full yet, and the world needs more children.

    7) Obviously gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children.

    8) Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That's why we have only one religion in America.

    9) Children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home. That's why we as a society expressly forbid single parents to raise children.

    10) Gay marriage will change the foundation of society; we could never adapt to new social norms. Just like we haven't adapted to cars, the service-sector economy, or longer life spans

    Please post this if you are for gay marriage.

    Bloody stuck in purgatory for the weekend it looks like. Maybe I should go to the library and check out Dante's Divine comedy. Plus sort of crappy first week.

    EDIT: Ok, found a ride. I'll be in Madison at 8ish tonight, ut still, I have a ride.
